Your Erroneous Zones
(Dr. Wayne W. Dyer)
Do you worry excessively? Do you constantly seek the approval of others? Are you constantly complaining about just anything and everything? Do you fear the unknown????Well, apparently, if your answer is ?yes? to any/every of these questions, then your behaviour is termed as ?erroneous? by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, a psychiatrist by profession, and his book ?Your Erroneous Zones? deals with how to put an end to these erroneous zones. According to him, acts like complaining, worrying, getting angry, feeling guilty, and many other negative thoughts/actions, are all self-defeating behaviours that take the form of obstacles in the way of our personal growth and development. Infact, he has termed these traits as ?immobilizing?. The author has devoted one chapter to each erroneous zone. He has stated in each chapter, day-to-day examples of the particular self-defeating behaviour, the reason we behave that way (i.e. the rewards we feel we get after behaving that way) and the means through which we can eliminate it. Ofcourse, the former part of each chapter points out how the behaviour affects us negatively. He has, very effectively included descriptions of his own patients in the form of examples of the erroneous behaviours, a brief outline of how he helped them to recover and how they have changed for the better. In short, there are 2 main lessons that one learns after reading this book. Firstly, life is a choice. We alone are the ones responsible for our feelings and emotions. We have the freedom to choose the way we behave, act and think. Secondly, present-moment living is essential for happiness. Brooding over the past and worrying about the future are nothing but wasteful acts that hamper effective living. So, stop worrying and stay happy??always!
