Psalms

Convinced that he is surrounded by an increasing number of freeloaders, backbiters, trouble makers, detractors and outright enemies, the writer of Psalm 3 reaches out to God in faith and some serious praying. It is as if he is retreating into an unassailable stronghold. However, he wonders why the number of people who are up in arms against him has increased so dramatically. For some reasons, these enemies are so sure that he is irretrievably trapped that they have ruled out any possibility of his being rescued by God, a fact they are now celebrating.
It appears, however, that the enemies have conveniently forgotten one thing, that the writer has and exercises a great faith in the Lord whom he sees as his defender, encourager and promoter. These detractors fail to recognise the fact that this writer is a man of prayer and that God answers his prayers, a fact that imbues him with the confidence that these tribulations will pass without him losing any sleep.
Being sure of the saving power of the Almighty, he even testifies openly about what God has done, what he is doing and what he will do, all to the chagrin of the stunned enemies. For a man who vows to banish fear, despite the horde of warlords who are daring him, he is not unaware that fear is the enemy of faith. He maintains a defiant faith. Finally, he makes a plea to God with whom, he believes, ultimate salvation lies. After this, the confident Psalmist is able to know and he declares it that God has visited the camp of his enemies and has disabled their war machine. This convinces him that they would not be able to carry out their plans. The enemies can only back, they would not be able to bite. At the end, the exuberant Psalmist gives all the glory to the Almighty, taking none for himself.
