Its social life would have to be exactly like the one of the metropolis, the materials made use there remembered to these colonists who they were before everything, subjects of the empire. The interest of State and the individual one had always been together in the politics of the Portuguese empire. The colony was the point of cultural identification, since the constructions, laws, rituals come from Lisbon. The difference was seen for all part, the two worlds fall apart, the Portuguese, had monuments, parties and via the religion they tried to come together. The Inquisition tried to equal the faith and the catholics rites of the colony, arresting the transgressors of the faith and sending them to the court in Lisbon, not influencing the religious believers. Many priests join the evangelization, the franciscanos, benedictines, Dominican and the Jesuits, in orders that had independence from the State, and were difficult to being controlled. The parties became public, the social differences in the society were expressions of the social classes, as of the slaves. You could identified the hierarchic by what the person was wearing. The attempts to change inclusive with the death punishment, did not changed the customs, illegitimate families were formed that could be lasting or alone they just made the number of orphans and foundlings grow. The marriage was resisted even with young women, the colonists just wanted to make wealth, did not want commitments. The migrations were only for the unfavorable economic conditions, for a secure residence. Economics interests resulted in people getting married, many wouldn't for the lack of money. The economic interests could also result in marriage, the incorporation of good with rules and conditions for the legitimation of the marriage were expensive, then many were not married due to money. The interests of the gentlemen were kept also with the marriage of the slaves, diminishing the escapes. The shipwrecks were frequent and confused the commerce. The necessity of magnifying and improving the roads in accordance with the population, that the measure that grew the number of people, also grew the conflicts, in whom the authorities controlled venda of drinks and powder, the monitoring on the men and the merchandises depended on the military roads where if they fixed detachment for the control of the entrance and exit of merchandises and men, from there the necessity to be well conserved. The fear to the ambushes was constant. Epidemics as the smallpox or bladder had killed many people, that people had to be burried quickly in flat hollows, caused the invasion of parasites, appearing unknown illnesses. The water that also caused illnesses could also bring the cure, as lagoons with waters tutrixes, the medicine was full of practical and magical religious beliefs. The way people eat was too the origin of many illnesses. The children were baptized young, allowing the entrance for the catholic religion, becoming converted, somethimes forced, the Church monopolized the religious rites. The education was done in the majority in the community by the eldery people, the formal education if it made in the religious orders, had a proper prolongation of catequese. The woman could not learn, only on how to sew, to earn income. The priest Luia Verney with its revolutionized ideas that people should learn other things, not just read and write. In this way the number of professors grew. The coloured people had an informal education, learned a craft and the Portuguese language, becoming descriminated.
