The Brushpopper
(Orville Rice)
Workin' cattle was the only thing little Dallas Ringgold reallly understood. It was the only thing his pappa was able to leave him before the man was shot and scalped by 'injuns' up on the Red River(In Texas). It happened at daylight. The 'Apach' came in just like ghosts. When they hit you they always work like a well oiled machine...and you better...because if you don't you'll fill a nameless grave somewheres nobody ever heard of. Well, them 'Apach' usually don't take no prisoners except women and children and they were a little out of their range that mornin' else they would have trailed little Dallas and found him down at the 'crick'. Instead he heard the sounds...a scream...then another one, then a big pistol talkin',then a couple rifles...
