A Million Little Pieces
(James Frey)

Publicidade
We meet James Frey at the very lowest point of his life when he wakes up in an airplane with a hole in his face and no idea how he got there. At the age of 23 he is very close to dying due to his alcoholism. From here the book leads you on a rarely seen tour of what rehabilitation is really like while still being entertaining, sometimes funny and unclinical. The hero learns lessons and struggles through his time there with very vivid and real characters by his side. The memories of his life as he recounts what led him to where he is are artfully done and don't interfere with his current situation. You feel for him and the others; not an easy task for a writer who has such anti-heros on center stage. He makes it possible to understand how a mafia leader could become a father figure and how so many damaged lives can be so human and endearing. James Frey has created a classic in the same league as 'One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest' and has you rooting for each character as they enter and leave rehab. It is a story of helplessness and hope and he doesn't gloss over any part of it . It's a brave piece of work and sometimes reading it I cringed at what he went through and the things he did. I highly recommend it to anyone who has ever thought they were having the worst day ever.
