Daydream, Moonbeams And Wings Over The Common
(Louisa Middleton-Blake)
Louisa rescues Maggie, a fledgling Magpie, from two hungry crows whilst walking her dogs on the common. She takes him home, not believing that he will last the night. She recounts Maggies exploits and how he takes over her life, using stories from her childhood to illustrate the influence he has over her family and pets. There is a lovely scene where Millie, a black kitten, teaches Maggie how to hunt for food. Maggie gives his own version of events and also tells us about his ancestory, weaving in tales of fairies, Sedna, Neptune, mermaids, nature and legends. His description of a fairy fairground in beautifully descriptive. This is a wonderful book that makes you laugh and takes you on a journey into a magpie's reality.
