The real truth about Atkins
The Atkins diet will change forever the way we look at dieting. Dr Aitkins was a visionary. A man who dared to speak out and explain the health benefits of eating a high protein diet, against the established ideology of the pyramid system of health, which advocates eating a carbohydrate rich diet. Dr Atkins turned the pyramid upside down and a few people got very upset.
The diet does not advocate the overuse of fats. But it does allow fat intake. Fat is the stabilizer of blood sugar and dieticians have always allowed fat in our diets, its just that we have been abusing manufactured and animal fat.
The book is controversial, in fact I would go so far as to say it is futuristic. Imagine if we all stopped eating bread, croissants, muffins? A carbohydrate rich diet makes you feel bloated, weighed down and tired. How many people do you know that say I wish I had more energy whilst consuming truckloads of sugar or carbohydrates.
The diet makes a distinction between good and bad carbohydrates, whilst vegetables and grains are allowed in moderate amounts, some vegetables are better than others. For instance silverbeet is better than potatoes. There is a strict two week induction to the diet which consists of eating only protein, however, you can eat as much as you like of these 'free foods'.
The book contains testimony to weight loss despite the high calorie intake and a definite feeling of wellness over a period of time after being on the diet.
Stop consuming so much carbohydrate. Thats the message in this book.
