chetan bahgat in his second book titled "one night @ the call center"describes with the most intricate details of a night shift in a call center in Delhi.India is the most booming market of the BPO business and that had given a rise to a number of call centers in and around the country.the story is a sort of conversational as it oppens in a railway compartmentof a Delhi bound train where the author is met by his copassenger - a beautiful lady who in turn narrates the entire story to him as a conversation.
Every single person in this world have a problem and they some how meticuluosly cover it up to show themselves to be happy as some of their professions need to have them cheer ful all the time.The story moves around five friends namely, Shyam,Priyanka,Radhika,Esha,and Varun.They all work in a delhi based call center named 'the Connextions'.All of the friends in the friend circle ahvetheir owmn dreams which they nourish for ever or rather since their very inception at the callcenter.Priyanka dreams of doing her B.Ed and settle down in life,Radhika wants a good and decent home which would be her heaven,Esha aspires to become a prominenmt figure in the modelling circuit, Shyam wants to settle hislife someways or the other,and Varun whom every body refered to as Vroom due to his love for speed wanted to be rich at a shortcut way.
The life of them take a serious turn as one night they discovered that their lives were not much of a value to them.Shyam nurtured a romantic relation with Priyanka which ultimately broke,Esha confessed secretly her guilt of sleeping with a choreographer to bag a deal which ultimately got cancelled.and Radhika discovered her husband's relationship with another girl.The situation worsened as the system breaks dowmn and the manager announces the decision to reduce employees.Vroom and Shyam are shocked on the discovery that the manager had actually forged their work and gained a promotion saying the work to be his own.
The rest of the story deals with the reunion of Priyanka and Shyam and Vroom becoming the ultimate savior of the call center.
