Job

The chapters in the bible that tell us the story of job is perhaps a great source of strength and comfort to anyone going through a bad time and to whom life appears to be one great enigma.Job symbolises the triumph of the human spirit in the face of extreme misfortune and loss.It is job who never loses his faith in god even in the face of severe adversities.
To start from the very beginning,Job is one of the most well to do men who doesn't lack anything and is also one of god's most favourite children primarily due to the fact that he is essentially a god fearing man and is extremely righteous too.But Satan once questions this very faith of job by putting forth the argument that it is but obvious that job would have so much of faith in god because god had bestowed upon him everything his heart desired and that too in abudance.He further stated that if all these luxuries were take away from him, job would surely turn away from the lord.To this statement the lord replied that satan was allowed to test the basic integrity of jobs faith except that he couldnt harm his soul.
Hence starts a saga of misfortune which not only rip job of his belongings and wealth but even snatches away his family.Things become so bad that at one stage job is afflicted with painful boils from head to foot,a physical pain so extreme that the best of men may turn violent with rage against god.But even then his faith does not waver.
Ultimately satan accepts his defeat and the Lord restores back to Job double of what he had lost.To me the chapter on Job signifies the strenghth of the human spirit to endure and ultimately the triumph of faith,in the face of adversities.It potrays the strenghth and stamina to stand up when your entire world is sinking all around you fueled by ones love for god and the intrinsic belief in his promises.
