Does the grass on the

other side of your fence looks greener? Then it?s

certainly time for you to take special care of your
lawn

before it goes dormant is winter. This care is
essential

in ensuring a healthy and stron lawn in the summer
months

later. Winter should begin without any young,tender
growth

on the lawn will dry out,giving you a brown winter
lawn.

Mow the lawn short,but in several steps,not suddenly at
one

go. Use organic mater to improve the soil. Avoid high-

carbon material such as sawdust,which can create
nitrogen

deficiencies. Give you lawn won?t use the fertilisers

immediatley,but will store these nutrients in its root

systme and use them in the growing season. Lawn
grasses

should be watered in winter,even though dormant. As a

rule,grasses should have 1 to 2 inches of water per

week,including any rainfall. When the graas looks dull
and

droppy,you know it?s tinme to water. Watering should
be

done early in the morning to ensure less evaporation.

Moreever it gives your lawn a chance to dry before

nightfull,which helps prevent diseases. Leaving debris
on

the lawn can smoother the grass and create problems
with

winter diseases. So remove all debris.If thesoil on
your

lawn has not been aerated,do it now. It will benefit
your

lawn tremendously. The presistent enemies,weeds,need
to be

tackled. Use appropriate mechanical or chemical
methods.

Looking after your lawn at this time of the year will

ensure that it?s ready,willing and able to get a quiock
and

healthy start after the winter passes. Don?t slack,and

watch your side grow greener!
