Pride And Prejudice
(Jane Austen)

Publicidade
Duly acknowledging the fact that the novel Pride and Prejudice written by Jane austen is a superbly sculpted masterpiece not only for the period that it was printed in but even down the years as it continues to be an all time favourite among readers. The sharp wit and subtle humour indicated in the book continues to enthrall its readers each and every time it's read .Amazingly these characters continue to exist in real life even today though under different names !.I havemyself come across quite a few witty Elizabeths and loving and warm hearted Janes in every day life not to mention a few Mr Darcy's too.
That said and turning my attention back to the novel itself let me tell you that in india till date groom hunting is a very serious business among mother's of eligible daughter's and is carried out with a lot of enthusiasm!Coming back to the novel which takes off from the instance when the rich and very eligible Mr Bingley is moving in quite near to the residence of the proud mother of five eligible daughters the famous Mrs Bennet. From here on she starts to undertake with quite seriousness every possible recourse to get her eldest daughter Jane into the Bingley household by means of Holy Matrimony! Ofcourse she and most of the characters potrayed in the novel do have an instantaneous dislike towards the proud and arrogant Mr Darcy who one might add was a dear friend of Mr Bingley. But as the novel gradually unfurls itself and one gets to see the entire picture in all its clarity, chief among them being the fact that it was through the good offices of Mr Darcy that elizabeth's sister and her no good husband Wickham are helped, despite wickham being one of the sleaziest characters one could hope to come across, even Elizabeth who at theonset abhored Mr Darcy finally succumbs to her heart and acknowledges the fact that she is truly in love with him. However it must be mentioned here that the scene wherein both Darcy and Elizabeth mutually acknowledge their romantic feelings is truly well written and so subtle are the choice of words and so well written are the dialogues that it continues to tug at ones heart strings even today. So with both Jane and Elizabeth married off to their respective beaus the proud and relieved mother of Mrs Bingley and Mrs Darcy ends of with an exhuberance of happiness that only a mother would know.Having stated the above one can'
t help but appreciate the genious of Jane Austen in writing a book that till date appeals to both the pride and the prejudices of its reader. And i'm sure that any one who's been through the book agrees with me .and every time i complete the novel i have an irrisistable desire to pick it up and start off once again on the incredible journey of its characters through all their trials and tribulations celebrating in their joy and being miserable at their misery.Oh yes and how could i forget agreeing with Elizabeth each time she perceived Mr Darcy as being mean and finally falling in love with him when she fell in love!
