Killing Yourself To Live: 85% Of A True Story
(Chuck Klosterman)

Publicidade
Killing Yourself to Live: 85% of a True Story written by Chuck
Klosterman, is a biography about his life as a SPIN magazine editor and
his journey across the country to do an article which is to find out
why musicians do the things they do, and some who go to great lengths
to find the ultimate high: to die. It seems, as Chuck
Klosterman explains, that musicians who are famous and who die [either
by accidental or intentional] ultimately become infamous; even if they
were barely recognized when they were alive. He tries to find the
site where band Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane crashed down, killing the lead
singer and a girlfriend/backup singer of a member. He goes to the
hotel where the infamous murder/suicide of Sid Vicious and Nancy
Spungen took place. He goes to the place where Great White
played, and the accidental fire from faulty pyrotechnics killed over 90
fans and destroyed their reputation. He wants to feel, breathe,
envelope himself in the dizzying downward spiral that so many musicians
have gone down.
He does all this while telling about three
dysfunctional relationships that he has. He is trying to make
sense of them, and at times, this brings him down and has him wondering
about everything. He has over 600 CDs with him, and some of them
reminds him of those women, and he explains the meaning of some of
them. But, he never gets to detailed, since what he is talking
about is his SPIN journey.
This is book is one that could offend some people,
but Klosterman does not care about that. He says what he wants to
say, and that makes his books quite controversial. He brings out
the reality that a lot of people just do not want to face, and he
brings it out with himself as the main target.
