The Old Man And The Sea
(Ernest Hemmingway)

Publicidade
This story, which is viewed by many as a classic, is about an old man who goes out fishing on a regular day and hooks a really big fish, which drags his boat for a few days out on the open sea. Most of the story is based on the determination of the human spirit. How a simple challenge can make a man use all of his resources at hand even if the outcome is of no real benefit.
The author did a fine job of building a story on a quite simple plot, and makes it interesting enough for someone to continue reading. Throughout the story, we find many things about the old man which we can relate to: even though, I do not believe any proper thinking person would be foolish enough to continue following some big old fish all over the big wide ocean, and all along the story you would find yourself thinking why don?t you just cut the line you old fool, because it?s really not worth it!
Sometimes we would also find ourselves questioning the reality of the plot but I guess, that?s why they call it fiction. As we dig deeper into the story, we find ourselves relating some of the events as we may recall similar scenarios that we have faced sometime in our lives the story may even arouse some emotion as we feel compassion for the poor old man as he struggle with his pride an dignity, and we would also feel compassion for the poor fish as his peaceful days have been replaced by dragging an old man and his boat for countless hours.
In the end you feel everything was justified some way or the other. The writer did a good job of presenting plot with little room to work with and sculpt a pretty interesting story.
