THE SCAPE GOAT
What can I do now? God, I am going to die in this dangerous forest? Belinda asked herself as tears streamed down her face. There had, only been the three of them since her father, Mr., Isaac woods left them to Nigeria and never returned when Belinda was only a baby.
   Her mother?s early death from lorry accident had been a blow, so suddenly it had happened. It had left her uncle, Mr. Wood caring for her and her elder brother Maxwell who was in his final year at Kings College in the United Kingdom. He was friendly and very popular and was loved by all those who came close to him. He was also very intelligent and humble and because he always took the first position in the college his uncle Mr. Wood always provides his needs with joy.
   Maxwell really wanted to go back home to meet his sister whom he knew will be crying her heart out because of his absence. It all started one Tuesday when some of the students of Kings College went to the national part to have a look at the beautiful creation of God. No sooner has arrived than there was a flash of lightening and the roar of thunder. They were four in numbers they had shock of their lives when they saw the great flash of lightening and heard the roar of thunder. They were blind by the thunder so they fall on the ground. They tried to get up but they couldn?t. They tried again and again before they were able to stand on their feet.
    They realized they couldn?t move quickly as they wanted because they felt pains all over their bodies. Immediately they stood up, they saw a huge elephant; three of them manage to escape living their innocent friend Maxwell behind. It was a close shave for Maxwell?s friends. The whirlwind carried him away to the other world with a great force. When the other three friends reached school; they narrated what happened to the vice chancellor of the college who also informed Maxwell?s uncle. Maxwell was so thirsty he thought he would die. He looked about, his eyes darting from side to side with unconcealed curiosity as he saw a gallon filled with water. He shuddered and picked the gallon of water. He was about to open it when he heard a strange noise from behind. He saw to his horror, group of bare footed children in patched clothing who were hurrying away, their steps purposeful, their heads bent and their eyes furtive.
      Maxwell thought as he saw their long unkempt hair and large round hats. They were quite different in appearance from other people. He became very shattered and sobbing when he heard the strange notice they were making. He said a word of prayer and all of a sudden all the strange looking people disappeared. He became afraid and wanted to scream when he remembered wherehe was and kept quite. In about a twinkle of an eye he saw his uncle with the care taker?s o the national part they then came in and took Maxwell home. When Maxwell reached home his sister Belinda was very happy to see his brother once again but kingsley one of Maxwell?s friends looked at Maxwell?s sister Belinda and was also very sad because his sister died about just a month ago, they all jubilate together and was very happy upon Maxwell?s arrival.
