Is Justice Just
(dennis diasen)
Have you ever wondered why the symbol for the justice is a blindfolded woman no a bespectacled man? I could not actually find a reason why justice is symbolized that way. A blindfolded woman....? Come to think of it. A woman is characterized by many as fickle-minded; she abruptly changes her mind whenever she feels like it. Would that be the way our justice system be perceived? A woman is moody. Sometimes she''s in a good mood, she speaks intelligently and very scholarly, but when she''s in her bad mood everything around her seems erroneous. She is also very emotional. I do not attempt to create a stereotype for women; I only present the general perception about women. When a woman is hurt she easily bursts to tears. A woman is also sensitive. She sometimes takes little things in big deal. So, may I ask you, is justice just in choosing a woman as representation? Does the symbol not speak unfairness? You say that the woman in the symbol is blindfolded for her not to play favoritism or bias but I will ask again, how could you she judge accurately if she can''t see the truth? Is she is blindfolded, how confident is she that she is not being cheated by powerful and influential people? You will say that is why she has the weighing scale. I don''t think her weighing scale is not enough to perceive the truth. Is it not the eye the best witness? "Have you seen what happened?" was the usual questions of lawyers interrogating the witnesses but they never ask justice the same question which I think is the most necessary. Why would the lawyers ask the question anyway? Justice is blind. With all these contestations to justice, we arrive to a question, "Is justice Just?"
