SURVIVAL

Man is a rational animal. He has excesses and shortcomings but he will surely keep these in check when they begin to threaten his very survival. Take the way he is treating his planet and his environment, for example.
He has been so kind to the earth that so generously provided him with food clothing and shelter, and even wealth; he has been so indifferent to her well being to; but when earth sends violent signals of protest like flashfloods, El Niño, epidemics, dwindling agricultural produce, and landslide, he will lose no time to make amends.
When polar caps begin to melt, he will surely find ways to halt it; he will drastically reduce the causes of global warming to prevent a second global inundation. He knows that unless he acts fast, he will surely be wiped out from the face of the earth.
When fishes disappear from the water; when plants refuse to grow, when wells run dry and his faucets have nothing more to give, he will reverse his wasteful consumption patterns toward of famine, drought and starvation. And because hunger and thirst respect no laws, he will harness every technology on hand to restore the earth?s fertility and abundance. This he will also do with dispatch since he is aware that wars and conflicts over scarce dwindling resources are inevitable.
Oh, man is capable of placating the wrath of the earth if really wants to. And when you and I, when all beneficiaries of the bounties of the earth, work hand in hand to appease our angry benefactor, we will hopefully move back into her favor once more. There is hope in Man; and its you, in all of us! Let us work and we will succeed.
Then can we shout in union and proclaim in triumph,
?MAN WILL NOT ONLY SURVIVE; HE WILL PREVAIL!?
