Modern Chess Strategy
(JOhn Watson)
CHESS Middlegame:Chess is traditionally divided into three phases: opening, middlegame, and endgame. Throughout CHESS history, but especially in the last four decades, opening theory has expanded steadily. Of late, this expansion has become soft of explosion, and we are inundated with almost unlimited material on this phase of the game from books to magazines to databases. Likewise, just about any modern chess idea expounded upon in this books can be found in some game or other prior to 1935. Beginning with the next chapter, then the task in Part 1 will be present sketches of older theory and to show what has changed while remaining i the context of old formulatons
