During the winter of 1861, Al gave birth to a healthy baby girl. Beth sprang forward feet first thirsting for life at hells gate. Not knowing what life had to offer, but ever expecting to fulfill all her dreams and aspirations. Bound to a family with no money, no land and no hopes of ever being free from invisible chains that clung to each feet. Now that time has come where Beth is calling for daddy althou daddy is in the Upper house and Beth down in the shack not understanding why he has not come back. Old Joe, hacked him last night with an axe and left running never to come back. Within days, he made it through the swampy land of Louisiana Bayou to the Arkansas border. Old Joe, is twenty-five yrs. old and all alone cause he killed his master to keep him from Al (Alice). Beth is grown with children of her own, and one lover lay died at her feet cause she stabbed him twice, and he left to fall in a dark alley way cross town. The police is at her door to deliver the news, and Beth is in denial of ever arguing with him but she can not explain the busted lip, or swollen eye.
