The Wonder Of It All
(Deepti Sawhney)
The wonder of it all The lovely due of the rising sun. The Fluttering wings of the humming bird, the rustling of the mango leaves as the wind gushes through them, the dew drops on the ivy leaves, the gongs of the temple bells and the chants of the pujaries. This was the dawn of life as I remember it. Very few people stop to listen and watch the natures beautiful ways and fewer still point them out to you. The gentle hands and the godly face that led me to the wonderful world of peace and serenity were of my dear grandfather - Col Kanwal Singh. Writing about him in the past tense is difficult to comprehend because he lives. He lives in the fresh leaves of Saplings, he lives in the Gushing stream water, the sweet morning air and every thing that is pure and worshipped. The values of love, faith and forgiveness instilled deeply with his soul and ruling his heart touched a thousand lives and comforted a thousand more like every being, his life too was speckled with the usual downs. After my material grandmother left for her heavenly abode life for him was not the same anymore - he had lost a companion his soul mate. He too had his share of depression phases, life was not always blissful. But never did he let his happy facade fail. He was the piller of fortitude and strength for his big family. He was a true chieftain who thought of his tribe before he thought of his own being. He sensed we all were there around him, sponging each and every emotion and that accounted for his positive attitude. The dusk arrived last year on 23rd June when the flowers closed their colour pretty petals to enclose - the wonder of it all. Peace and tranquility prevails and my grandfather lives on one with nature. He also lives in me as he is a part of me and I remain very much an in separable part of him.
