Richard Mayhew was an average man living in London. He had a beautiful, but demanding, fiancé, a good job, and a normal life. That all changed when he met Door. He had been going to dinner with Jessica, his fiancé, and her boss when he saw the young woman bleeding on the sidewalk and ignoring Jessica''s protesting he decided to help her. Suddenly no one at his job recognizes him, his apartment it being rented out to someone else and Jessica only barely remembers his face (but not his name or the fact that they were engaged). To make matters worse he''s being chased by a couple of underground hit men known as Croup and Vandemar. He has been thrown into a world known as London Below, made up of people who have "fallen through the cracks" and must follow door on her quest to find out who killed her family to try to find his way home. Lead by the the Marquis de Carabas, and accompanied by a mysterious bodyguard named Hunter, Richard encounters angels, monks, the heat sucking Velvets and finds himself in the presence of some of the most important people in London Below. He finds himself following his companions to "floating markets" and museums in which they move through crowds of people who barely even see them. Will Richard ever get home again or will he be stuck in the world of London Below forever? A dark story filled with exciting adventures and near escapes this book will leave you breathless.
