Patriot Games

Patriot Games, the title itself is borrowed from some Irish song. No surprise that the theme here is about the terrorist activities carried out by the Irish revolutionists.
The story starts with an attempt to kidnap the royal family of the Prince of Wales, the princess and their new born first child. Fortunately Ryan happened to be in that place (with his family) and does some superhero stuff and saves the royal family. On the process of saving them, he fractures his hand. This incident and later when the prince comes to visit Ryan at the hospital where Ryan talks him out of his guilt, brings them together. Ryan''s daugther Sally, becomes the sweetheart of everyone in the Buckingham palace including the Queen (who even gives the kid lessons on horse riding).
The ULA are the bad guys in the story. One of the ULA who was caught and later escapes while transfering him to another jail, plans to kill the whole Ryan family. Fortunately Jack escapes and Cathy and Sally are badly injured, with the later suffering severe wounds. This makes Jack furious and makes him take the job in CIA which was in the offering for quite some time now.
The Prince comes to visit the Ryan family on invitation and the house forms the basis for the climax, when the ULA attacks the three families there, the third one being the Jackson couple, close friends of the Ryans.
Everything boils down there and the alpha males shoot their way out from there. The story ends with Ryans having their new baby, Jack Jr. Jack Jr ends up having two sets of godparents, both very different in every ways, with one being the Prince and Princess of Wales, and the other couple being the fighter pilot Robby Jackson and his wife Sissy.
The novel explains how the prince and Jack came close in their friendship. This is supposed to be the second in the total series of Jack Ryan verse. This novel explains how Ryan got into CIA, for whom he works part time. (the canary)
A typical Clancy novel with all his ingredients, this is one real page turner.
