Dom Casmurro

Dom Casmurro is the nickname of Bentinho, who''s also telling us his own story. He used to live in Matacavalos St. with his mother, Mrs. Gloria, uncle Cosme, lawyer, cousin Justina (all of them widowed) and the tenant farmer José Dias. Bentinho and Capitolina (or simply Capitu) were neighbors, she was a kind of sister-girlfriend.
A promise by his mom led him to a seminar and sutdying abroad. He eventually married Capitu and Escobar (a friend from the seminar) became a close friend of the young couple.
Bentinho and Capitu have one child: Ezequiel, and practically by the time he is born, Escobar dies.
Bentinho worries about the strange feeling shown by his wife at the mourn and starts thinking his son resembles his dead friend ''way too much''. He used to find both: wife and friend sometimes home alone and feels desperate.
Bentinho and Capitu move to Europe, but he comes back to Brazil alone. Afterwards his son visits him to tell that she died, soon after Ezequiel passed away.
Bentinho is haunted by the ''doubt'' of Capitu''s being unfaithful till the end of his days.
