A Painted House
(John Grisham)
A staunch John Grisham fan like me could find a surprise in "A painted house". Grishman leaves behind his usual crime- police-justice mileu & tries a country tale & succeeds in his endeavor. The whole novel is seen & narrated through the proagonist Luke Chandler. Set in Arkansas the story follows Luke & his family of parents & grand parents through trying times. The family toils on cotton lands that really isn''''t their own & end up hiring Mexican refugees as cotton pickers. The starkness of the time through rain & sun, through floods & fights through births & deaths bring in an interseting tale. In reality it chronicles the hardship of any cotton farmer & the drama that is life. Interesting life like characters make this read a very real life like experience much like other cotton growers chronicles. Although the end seemed somehow abrupt & making me wonder if the tale really had ended. Defenitely a good read minus the court room drama that is Grisham''s trade mark.
