Mysore Ramananda: A comedian with a grave mission Mysore Ramananda, a lively gifted stage artist. A first rate comedian is familiar with the cine-goers and TV viewers. The comic episodes of ?PHONAYANA? (repeatedly appearing) a drama inhouse program , and his latest exposure in the ?SANCHARI SHRAVAN PUNGI RAMAYANA? and the NAGE HABBAS? conducted in the nooks and corners of the entire Karnataka have fetched Ramananda an image of a lively and boisterous comedian of stuff and substance. Born in Horeyala near mysore, Ramananda as a boy evinced interest in acting on the stage, started his own Ranga Thanda ?Gejje Hejje?. Though with the little schooling he developed a taste for reading literature especially the plays and novels. He started writing skits and play lets and the street plays (beedi nataka) and by now he has accomplished such performances over six thousand in number in the state covering its width and breadth. The 50 year old Ramananda has acted in 97 films performing the roles of comedian and is eagerly looking forward to cross the century mark. Bare handed Ramananda came to Bangalore to make a career in his chosen field of artistry. He beamed with enthusiasm and made others laugh although he himself was not happy. He started the playing street skits near Maleshwaram and Ram mandir to feed himself on. There after he never looked back and in the course of two decades, by dint of hard work, sincerity of purpose and total dedication, he has carved his own solid image of a typical comedian both in the filmy world and the amateur stage. His skits and plays all written by himself and staged by himself with his own prime role, Ramananda has caught the imagination of the youth and old alike. He happily recounts that his performances have been appreciated by personalities such as Dr.Rajkumar, Ha.Ma.Nayak, Devanuru Mahadevaiah, K.Ramdas and P.Lankesh. Ramananda`s plays and skits make the comedy of manners. Cynical and witty, they are realistic, full of buoyant humour and witty dialogues. They portray the fads and follies without in the least offending anyone but prompting all to think. A shrewd observer of life and a skilled stage technician Ramananda lays bare with much good sense and sagacity the maladies and follies of the urbane sophistry. Ramananda`s favourite puppet-doll is a powerful character and a handy tool of his medium and it is made to speak delighting the viewers with its harsh banters and satiric criticisms. Ramananda himself gives the voice to his puppet-doll holding his lips tight. Ramananda has the native gifts of humour. Simple, straight forward and unassuming person. He is a serious type of comedian whose mission in life is to make people laugh and alert them to their own follies, lapses and obscurities. He is an accomplished artist who reminds us of the English writer Horace Walpole`s famous dictum:? This world is a comedy to those who think and tragedy to those who feel? -RAGHOTTAMA KOPPAR
