Alienor's Bed
(Mireille Calmel)
Only twelve years old and already Alienor of Aquitaine''s life is entirely mapped out. She will marry the son of Geoffroy the Fair, young Henry, legitimate heir to the throne of England. With this alliance, the young duchess brings one of the most plentiful regions of the French kingdom into the hands of his strongest enemy. Louis VI cannot accept to witness this plan, engineered by Mathilde de Grimwald, supposed descendant of Merlin and protector of the druids. Supported by the Templars, the king seeks to break off the engagement. Alienor''s father premature death constitutes an unexpected opportunity. On July 25th 1137, Louis celebrates the wedding of his own son and the much-coveted young duchess. Alienor must then join the Paris court, a court more severe than the one she is used to and which was established by her famous grand-father, a troubadour, poet and woman-lover. But, foremost, she must learn to love her young and beautiful husband, whose piety and prudishness forecast the difficult and stormy relationship between them. Alienor does not travel alone to the court. She takes with her a young maid, Loanna de Grimwald, who will ensure that Alienor never gives an heir to France which would otherwise go against the celt oracles.
