?When you want something, the entire universe conspires in helping you to achieve it?. A famous quotation from the world?s best selling novel The Alchemist, written by Paulo Coelho. Paulo Coelho born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil attended law school but in the year 1970 he abandoned his studies and travel throughout Peru, Mexico, Chile and Bolivia also parts of Europe and North Africa. The Alchemist is based on Jorge Luis Borges ?Tale of two Dreamers? which in turn based on a tale from the book of One thousand and One Nights. The Alchemist sold more than 41 million copies world wide, it is translated into some 57 languages also it is a movie-in-progress that will be produced by Laurence Fishburne. The Alchemist tackles about one man?s journey to find his destiny as well as himself in the process; it shows the disagreement between the protagonist inner issues and the outside world impact on him, with these events occurring the conflict arise between pursuing your dreams or bring it to an end. Omens reflect cultural richness of a society that enables them to transcend other communities. Omen could be trace way back in the ancient times were high priest and philosophers use them to explain events such as calamities, success and even plagues that are occurring. To further explain the book alchemist, this paper would focus on omens which are included in the novel. It would discuss about the history of omens, kinds of omens and the connection between the Alchemists. Omen is said to be a phenomenon that is interpreted as good or bad omen. In ancient Rome, omens or signs are easy notice; these include environmental elements such as cloud movements, lightning, flight of the birds and paths of sacred animals.  Omens are used by an augur a priest and official in the classical world, especially ancient Rome. His main role was to understand the will of the gods by observing the flight of the birds like if it is flying alone or group, the noises being made and the specie they belong, with this he was able to explain calamities, success and plagues occurring in a society. With omens one can determine the future outcome of one person?s life as believed before in the ancient times. These are use in the rise and fall of kingdoms before, the explanation would be because of the alignment of stars or other astrological basis.  In the book Alchemist, omens are rampant and abundant for the protagonist to notice, this serve as a way to know which path should be taken and that is why most of his decision are dependent on the signs he sees. In this case omens play a big part on how the protagonist supposed to do things; he was limited by what the outcome would be if he does not able to take the right road. A man searches for what he needs, to find answers and for him to find it, he should take the road of the unknown, like for example when the protagonist face with two roads, he let omens decide for him by throwing the colored marbles at the ground and interpret it by the most abundant color, that would be the basis which road to take.  This shows that man let fate and destiny decide for what their life outcome would be.  The alchemist is one tool that would open our minds not to let forces to take over the course of life, it has opened our eyes that we only limit our self because we chose to and because we let it happen, we should be more versatile and open to new beginnings in life.   The true treasure in our life is the experience we have encounter and the lessons that we learn.
