?Denizlerin Aynasinda Son Elli Yil? (The Last Fifty Years in the Mirror of the Seas) is the last book of Captain and author Oktay Sonmez, published by Dunya Publications. Holding up a mirror to the last fifty years of the Turkish maritime industry, Sonmez reflects on his lines the years of experience gathered at Sea one by one and draws attention to the current issues of this process with his articles published in the press previously.
While embracing both the past and the future in the pages of his book, Sonmez tells to his readers the development of the Turkish maritime industry from the past to the present and gives the answer to the question from which point we have achieved our current position in a cordial manner, in accompaniment of infinite love of the Country and the sea. Sonmez sometimes shows up his captain and sometimes journalist identity in his articles, in which he deals with the current issues, and sometimes he appears as a poet.
In his book, Sonmez also gives us clues as to how we can cope with globalization. The subject of the articles contained in his book ranges from the dyeing hydrobiological structure in the Black Sea, to environmental issues, hazards of the seas, riches of our seas, marine culture, ancient ports, Anatolia, Esmeralda, Tarik Zafer Tunaya, and ?America America?.
