Coming From The Rain
(Sara Barrena)

Publicidade
?A red line, invisible, connects those who could be destined to meet each other, in spite of time, place and in spite of circumstances. The line can get taut or get tangled up, but it will never be able to break?. This Chinese proverb, with which Coming from the rain opens, describes the sensation that most parents of adoptive children have: that their son, although born from another biological mother, was destined to be theirs. A belief, without doubt superstitious, that accompanies them in the adventure of this other type of maternity and paternity. Sara Barrena recounts in first person the meeting with her adoptive daughter Yu Lai, born in China and brought up in an orphanage, like thousands and thousands of girls in her country. An adventure that is undertaken by several thousands of couples ? or single persons ? of Spain, second country in the world in quantity of international adoptions. Sarra Barrena recounts the long wait of two years, started in 1999, the complicated bureaucratic process, plagued by doubts, nerves and uncertainties. Until the day that she received a telephone call with the magic words: ?You have been assigned?. At that moment the preparations for the trip to China start, a country so different and so cosy. Finally, about one month later, the moment comes in which the baby is handed over to her parents, Sara and Cesar. The so long awaited moment which will forever mark the lives of the three main characters. In that instant starts the mutual knowledge between the girl, the father and the mother; immediately all the doubts are dissipated about the hypothetical health problems or the possible rejection by the baby towards her new and imposed parents, and in this way, finally, the great story of maternal love will not be interrupted any more. It is also the moment to enjoy the fifteen-day stay in this immense country, visiting the more typical places: The Great Wall, The Forbidden City ? and getting soaked in the thousand-year-old Chinese culture. Coming from the rain is aimed at understanding from first hand the emotions of a young adoptive mother, like a guide, practical as well as sentimental, for the persons who are thinking about this other form of paternity. It will serve them to get soaked of almost real sensations and images which will make their wait for that trip, which seems never to come, more bearable.
