New source music is the kindling of a tiny ember of hope for the future, it is the fulfillment of a search for identity, it is the discovery of a piece of that intimate feeling known as individuality in the amorphous countenance of a world of globalized culture and civilation. NEW source music does not shout out its existance, does not intend to complete, let alone measure it self against the brash tones and all-pervasiveness of popular music poundingin our ears with the uniformity of diatonic harmony as spread by the misionaries. The spread of diatonic music in the centuries of colonization of the non ? caucasians race was the first wave of cultural globalization. Thus the solmization system has become widespread, becoming common property, let us say, whether of the dock side worker in Papua New guinea or of polar ? bear hunter in the snow field of Alaska or of a wine-dealer in bordeaux and so on. New source music does not challenge this status quo, but merely tries to demonstrate a positive bias and a solidarity toward the many kinds of indigenous music of the non-western world which are increasingly being driven out by the globalization of industrial civilization and culture. Amongst this turbulence, where some traditions still glow, like the gamelan tradition, the Tradition of gagaku music or the renaisance of Malinke ritual drumming, and in the midst of anxiety that their light may be extinguished, the tradition of gamelan ajeng in Karawang, the ba-benzele vokal art of pygmies of Equatorial Africa and hundreds of kinds music traditions which have been driven in to the corner all over the world new source music is a small coin of hope which may be added to the currency of innovation, to the renewal of indigenous music.
