Monsters & Magical Sticks: There''s No Such Thing As Hypnosis?
(Steven Heller, Ph.D. & Terry Lee Steele)
This is one of the most important books you will read in your lifetime. When I first read this book in the 80''s, I had done "The Forum", I had investigated NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming), I had enrolled in every consciousness-raising course I could find, and I had even taught quite a few myself. Dr. Heller''s book strips away the invisible workings behind most of these programs and takes the mystery out of hypnosis at the same time. The book was clearly written for the benefit of therapists, from Heller''s course "Clinical Hypnosis: Innovative Techniques «", however it is extremely well written and accessible to even the most inexperienced layman. Rather than being a skeptical treatise on the impossibility of hypnosis, the book takes a deep look at our preferred modes of communication and describes practical methods for matching those modes to produce everything from "instant rapport" to deep hypnosis. This book has been on my recommended reading list for over 10 years, and with its re-release, it will remain there for another 10
