Real Food For People With Diabetes
(Doris Cross)
With several diabetic family members, I read Real Food for People With Diabetes to find foods and recipes that contain less sugar and fat than traditional ones. I was hoping to get some ideas for healthier eating in general as well, and this book didn''t disappoint. It includes recipes for main dishes, breads and, most importantly for a diabetic with a sweet tooth, desserts that can be made without sugars. I am not the world''s most talented cook, so I was happy to see that the majority of these recipes were not overly complicated, and didn''t involve tracking down a lot of special ingredients. Using artificial sweeteners, egg substitutes and butter sprinkles and cooking sprays, you can recreate a variety of tasty foods and avoid feeling deprived. I applaud anyone who can come up with reduced fat and sugar versions of Chocolate Cake with Fudge Frosting and Pumpkin Pie Deluxe, as authors Doris Cross and Alice Williams have done here. If you''re a recently diagnosed diabetic, or just want to develop and maintain good eating habits, Real Food For People With Diabetes can help.
