Atlas Shrugged
(Ayn Rand)

Publicidade
In ATLAS SHRUGGED, Ayn Rand expands on the ideas from THE FOUNTAINHEAD, beyond archetypes for creative humans to archetypes for economically productive humans in modern capitalist society. It is an unapologetically creative work, massive in scope, and absorbing enough to merit forgiving Ms. Rand for her sparse knowledge of science and technology. The heroes of ATLAS SHRUGGED try to live by the oath taken by the associates of main hero, John Galt: "I swearùby my life and my love of itùthat I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine." Ms. Rand''s vision is very idealistic, and a pure application of her ideas to day-to-day situations would probably prove difficult. But the code she espouses is worth considering in an age where answers to questions of morality and spirituality seem less definite than ever before. ATLAS SHRUGGED will take an investment in time. Even the most efficient readers will need weeks to get through it. Ms. Rand did not edit for efficiency. Also, the book is clearly intended to attack Communism, and overtly socialist governments. But even in the post-Communist world, it has profound lessons. Some of the pitfalls of socialist thinking, well-detailed by Ms. Rand, still creep into our world. If a reader has the time and interest, this book is worth a read.
