Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince
(J K Rowling)
It began with the introduction of the Muggle prime minister who seemed to have been leading a tense week. Out of the blue, the portrait hung on the wall of the minister?s office announced the arrival of the minister who is familiar to the HP fans? Cornelius Fudge who brought ill news as the magical world was endangered by the return of ?You-Know-Who?. Meanwhile, Fudge?s successor for Minister for Magic?Rufus Scrimgeour, also arrived. The meeting ended with the hint of the foreboding ill fate. The scope then focused on the visiting of Narcissa Black and her Death Eater sister, Bellatrix Lestrange to Severus Snape?s house. Narcissa told Severus about her worries about the entrusted job to her son by Voldemort, seeking aid from Snape. Then, they made the Unbreakable-vow which Snape had promised to take care of Malfoy. Harry Potter then came into the story. He and Dumbledore were on their way to a village. Harry noticed the blackened hand of Dumbledore who seemed to refuse to the reveal the reason for his injury. They headed to a severely destroyed house where Dumbledore found his ex-colleague, Horace Slughorn. Harry somehow was able to persuade this reluctant old man to come out from his retirement to teach in Hogwarts. Happily, Dumbledore apparited both of then to the Burrow. Before entering the house, the headmaster informed Harry the personal lessons with him this year. The next morning, Harry woke up when both his best pals entered his bedroom. Harry then plugged up the courage to tell Hermione and Ron about the prophecy. Silence followed, but Ron and Hermione said that they will always by his side whatever happened. The warmth of friendship encouraged Harry in his fighting against the Dark Lord. The trio alongside with the Weasleys made their way to the sombre Diagon Alley to visit Fred and George?s shop. There, Harry, Hermione and Ron saw the suspicious looking Draco Malfoy whom he decided to follow trail. Malfoy went into the notorious Borgin and Burkes where he requested the proprietor to fix something. Hermione tried to get the answer out of Burke but it was fruitless. Harry was strongly attached the mystery Malfoy had on his sleeve, although Ron and Hermione begged to differ. As the trio returned to Hogwarts, more mysteries aroused. An old potion textbook which made Harry to be the best potion maker in his class and whose former owner was named ?The Half Blood Prince?, the tensioned Draco Malfoy, the disappearance of his big pal (Hagrid) and the reason for Dumbledore?s blackened hand. In addition to these, Harry had to face more trouble as he was made the Captain of his Quidditch team and his hatred towards Severus Snape came to its climate as he was new Harry?s DA teacher. Professor Dumbledore did live up to his words as he helped Harry to discover the past of Lord Voldemort. Harry was guided through the several memories to witness the family of Tom Riddle, his killings and his evil intention when he was pursuing education in Hogwarts. However, the most important link was lost. The reminiscence which Sulghorn purposely tampered when he was having a conversation with Voldemort. As if things were not complicated enough, Ron and Lavender Brown became an item and in some way affected the friendship between Ron and Hermione. Harry became more distressed when he was aware of his feelings towards Ginny. Love was just too much for this sensitive period. Helix Felix (the liquid of luck) triggered the discovering of the truth which Horace had been hiding and the break-up of Dean and Ginny. Excited, Harry shared the memory with Dumbledore and the headmaster was able to deduce that the secret of the immortality of the Dark Lord. Voldemort had spitted his soul into six parts, each encased in a special object to become a Horcrux. They were, 1) The Marvolo?s ring (destroyed by Dumbledore). 2) The Tom Riddle?s diary (which had been destroyed by Harry in the 2nd book) 3) The Slytherin?s locket 4) The Hufflepuff?s cup 5) Something from Ravenclaw 6) Nagini (Voldemort?s pet snake) The climax of this book is when Harry together Professor Dumbledore went to the cave Voldemort once visited when he was small in the hope of finding a horcrux. However, Dumbledore was severely hurt and was apparited back to Hogwarts by Harry. He was killed eventually by Snape when the gang of Death Eaters (Draco led them in through the Vanishing Cabinet in the Room of Requirement) as well as Malfoy cornered in the astronomy tower. Harry?s world fell apart and he tried to track down Snape and Malfoy. Yet, Snape was too skilful and they managed to run away. (Harry also came to know that the Half-Blood Prince was Severus Snape.) The most depressing part unfolded when Harry found out that the locket Dumbledore managed to retrieve was a fake one. The authentic locket was stolen by someone named R.A.B. After the unfortunate event, Dumbledore?s burial was conducted at Hogwarts. Many attended including the merpeople and the centaurs. Sadness gripped Harry and he decided to break up with Ginny. Nothing was in his mind except the plan to find all the horcruxes and to kill the evil Voldemort. Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley stood beside Harry, accompanying him at the looming grim path lying ahead of them?
