Location ?ory situated in the south of Upper Silesia, has about 63 thousand inhabitants. It is popular both with its inhabitants and guests who appreciate the atmosphere of the Town Square, neat streets and the amazing combination of modern approach and respect for histprical past. Town is situated on the crossing of the important transport routes. The State Road no 81 from Wis?a and Cieszyn to Katowice passes through ?ory and so does the province east-west road no 935. Owing to good transport routes you can easily get to most cities of the Katowice agglomeration as well as holiday and sports resorts like Bielsko-Bia?a, Szczyrk and Wis?a. It is not far to the border with Czech Republic. In a few years an A1 North-South European motorway will run through ?ory. Two junctions will connect it with the local roads. Town Square ? the heart of every town. The ?ory Town Square is one of the most beautiful places in town. Resurfaced pavements and a system of fountains make it perfect for a stroll with your family or a quiet rest on one of the benches. In the summer, outdoor gardens where you can have a drink or simply hide away from the heat swarm with people. Pizzerias, restaurants and cafes are welcoming the customers warmly. Those who like playing chess can make use of a giant chessboard paved into the surface of the square. Those who like history might be interested in the statue of John of Pomuk, the nearby church of The Apostles St. Philip and St. Jacob from 14th century as well as the plates commemorating memorable events. Many concerts and outdoor festivals are held on the square; it is also a great starting point for sight seeing trips around the Old Town. There are many places to be seen: Mediaeval town fortifications, historical Murarska /Bricklayer''s/ Street or the Town Museum where you can admire one of the richest etnographic collections presenting the tribes of West Africa. Ecology. ?ory is situated in the ecologically cleanest region in The Silesia, far from the crowds and heavy industry. The scenic park "The Rudy Wielkie Cistercian Landscape Compositions" starts here; its forests cover the area from Zory to Racibórz. Cycling routes are abundant. Those who prefer hiking will not be disappointed either; a short hike through the forest will take you to the Palowice lake district. It consist of over the ponds founded hundreds years ago by the Cistercians. It is one of the most charming parts of Silesia. Shopping and life. You do not have to leave the town to do your shopping. For a few years now ?ory for many has been the place to do shopping. They often come to visit one of the markets and the town is becoming a regional shopping centre. If you have more time, visit the Old Town shops ? the ?ory shop owners offer a varied range of merchandise. The Crafts'' Mall, shopping galleries and other shops are well worth visiting. The ?ory open air market cannot be missed ? walking along the stalls you might come across a real bargain. Every year The ?ory Economic Chamber organizes Constructions Fairs and Investments'' Offers "?orBIM" which attract business from all over Silesia. ?ory is the town with future. It has distinguished itself in the rankings for self-governments organized by central institutions. Zory has received distinctions in the "Safe Community" contest organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration. In the countrywide ranking "Investor-Friendly Professional Community" the town is always among the top communities in the up-to-100 000- inhabitiants'' category.
