Platero And Me
(Juan Ramón Jiménez)
"Silversmith and Me" it is a very brief book... or better... a brief history of love. love toward a donkey, inseparable partner of hardships and happiness, but also, toward the nature that he/she gives us in their diversity from the divine colors of the dawn until the presence inefable of all that surrounds us. Halfway between the poetry and the prose, he/she sings the donkey partner, but also to the hill, an autumn, to the forgotten cluster, the road, the old square, the house of in front, The Reyes Magicians, the wine, the death, the nostalgia... the life everything is played by the magic of the poetry... and it jumps in a thousand colors before our astonished view. It is a book in colors. A song to the friendship. A beautiful collection of prints of the daily life and of deep reflections about the human existence. In the first pages it describes us on the way to the sweet partner, later, it takes us of the hand for the games of the childhood, the beloved corners of the small towns of in the past, the poverty, the miseries, the pain and the fondness, the smile, the astonishment of the children that you/they open the eyes to the life, until the illness, the death and the eternity. Silversmith embodies the friend, it is the mascot, the trip partner, the thread that ties us to the memories of the childhood, to the perception of what is only ?visible with the heart?. In anyone of his editions it is a delicious reading, but it is especially it in those editions in Castilian language in those that we are given the capricious one (but not for that reason less logical) ?spelling? of the poet. Small jewel of the Spanish literature, Silversmith and I are a book for children that boys read and bigger with equal he/she delights for never not forgetting it.
