THE DA VINCI CODE
DAN BROWN
Very few works of fiction have achieved the heights of popularity as much as The Da Vinci Code which at one point of time threatened to shake the Christian faith, but faiths are not meant to be shaken. The story is interesting and inspirational yet a story: meant to be written, read, directed, viewd and yes, often remembered.
The literary piece begins with the realisation that ''I am still alive'' as the curator Jacques Sauniere thinks admist life gushing past sweeping him off his feet. And even more haunting is the thought that if he dies the truth would be lost and buried with him forever. Bitterness and anguish, the miserable feeling of being trapped made him shiver to the core, and he waits for an open window admist all the closed doors beside him. Making every attempt to preserve the secret he dies creating a masterpiece of himself with clues all around him. Police investigation follows so do we peep into the life of the renowned curator. The low profiled yet certain existence of the Opus Dei group believers of ''God''s work'' philosophy , bishops arguing and media referening to Opus Dei as ''God''s Mafia'' and ''the Cult of Christ'' give a well deserved hype to the subject.
A well interwoven character presented, is of Sophie Neveu, the mesmerising green eyed beauty with brains ironically investigating the death of her own grandfather. Suddenly the mystery of Holy Grail and Leonardo da vinci ''s masterpiece present themselves.
Throughout the story cryptopgraphy is being shown as an art or science beyond compare Fibonacci series is also used though it has no meaning to any relevant clue. The mystic plot weaves computer technology, bishops, cryptography, masterpieces all into one to achieve one common motive: the sustainance of readers interest. But , however, the reader often thinks through the whole plot and feels what on the earth would be the significance of Da Vinci''s being a homosexual and keeping secret diaries? Any common individual can be the person of his own free will and might have a secret group as long as it does not hurts anybody''s sentiments.
Sophisticated French words are used throughout to create a charming and cultured effect to the plot.
Da Vinci''s words'' Blinding ignorance does mislead us.'' are however ironic but hold the truth . Just as Shakeapeare words'' Blow , blow thou winter wind thy art is not so unkind as man''s ingratitude.'' open our eyes wide towards a vision of truth. The story ends in oblivion. For us the followers Jesus will remain the saviour, the one power who rules, the one act of kindness that leads to another. The Da Vinci Code is a mockery , is a readable novel but as we all know far far from the truth.
Ever so come Lord Jesus !
