GOD?S GENERALS AND THE CHRISTIAN FIGHTER

Perhaps you never knew the Christian faith is a continuous battle of a life-time. Many, especially in this current church-age, have valiantly fought it and won while many have gallantly fought it and lost.
Sometimes to maintain a leverage in the battle, you sometimes need to watch the courageous exploits of your fellow fighters and learn from their doggedness. And to keep a valiant head-way, you need to be alert to the express instructions of your field commandant in order to avoid common pitfalls on the battlefield.
God?s generals is a book by Roberts Liardon that chronicles the lives and times of notable 19th century men and women of God. It ignites dormant passions and provokes one to reflect upon one?s existence in relation to the specific purpose of God for such a life. No one can fully appreciate the demanding tenets of the spiritual faith until he draws upon the biblical applications of ordinary men of our times who nearly surpassed the exploits of biblical prophets!
God?s Generals details the worldwide revivals of the Pentecostal, Divine Healing and the Charismatic Christian movements of the 19th century Christian leaders. These were men and women of God who performed wondrous wonders and brought the kingdom of heaven closer to earth. They healed the sick and diseased, raised the dead and restored whole body organs, they converted many to Christ and elevated the already established to higher levels of spiritual experiences.
These were men and women who lived and walked this earth in flesh and blood. They gave births and their offsprings and peoples whose fathers witnessed these extraordinary revivals still work and live amidst us. These were people who probably pioneered our Christian doctrines and founded our Christian denominations. With their doggedness, spiritual tenacity and spiritual gifts of the Spirit, they laid the framework for modern day Christianity and redefined core intimacies with God. Almost all of them detailed in God?s Generals fought the good fight of faith and their God-given ministries succeeded profoundly, while some in spite of initial successes had question marks posed at them at the end of their ministries and sojourn on earth.
The twelve (12) great reformers and revivalists examined in God?s generals are: John Alexander Dowie, known as the healing apostle; Maria Woodworth-Etter, the demonstrator of the spirit; Evan Roberts, dubbed the Welsh revivalist; Charles F. Parham, the father of Pentecost; William J. Seymour, the catalyst of Pentecost; John G. Lake, a man of healing; Smith Wigglesworth, Apostle of Faith; Aimee Semple Mcpherson, A woman of destiny; Kathryn Kuhlman, the woman who believed in miracles; William Branham, a man of notable signs and wonders; Jack Coe, the man of reckless faith; A. A. Allen, the miracle man.
Perhaps to stamp the credibility and spiritual relevance of the book, the author?s mother, Carol Liardon, wrote the preface and gave a background revelation of the early call of God upon her son, Roberts, the author. It?s a book that exists in both paperback and hardcover, and which demand is still great at the moment. Notable heads of churches, ministries and Christian organizations lend their testimonies to the solid worthiness of the book and the research materials contained therein. Even the author?s mother, Carol Liardon, maintained the Oral Roberts University offered to buy the memorabilia and historical evidences the author had been compiling since age sixteen that served as the basis for the book, but she stoutly refused and the materials were deposited in a library established for the purpose after the book law compiled.
For any lay person or fervent minister of God who desires the same fiery move of God upon his life as those upon God?s Own Generals, I recommend this book to serve as a catalyst to effect that experience and ministry. This will serve as a basis for fulfilling the call of God upon one?s life and paving the way for admission into heaven, the kingdom of God.
