The Immortal Man
(Michael David Hilton)
In ancient times there were many beliefs. Most of which, today sound fictional and unfeasible. Legends and myths bearing stories of gods and god like beings, beasts and monsters with magical powers. Most of which are just folklore and stories past down through generations. One legend, probably the least known at this time is that of a being who has lived in all the ages, in all the continents in the entire world. And it needs to be said that it is not just on our world that this being has set foot on. Some gained the trust of this being and learned his secret. All vowed not to tell a living soul, but few failed to keep that promise. This didn?t matter. Who would believe that a being could withstand the effect of time? That he could walk among the ages. Learn skills and languages and most of all, live forever. Well that is what this being could do. He was?. The Immortal man. To tell his story I would have to start at the beginning. The story begins long ago, in a time when not much was known about the earth. The tribes that inhabited the earth recognised it as being there creator. They saw that life came from the earth as a baby comes from its mother. The people of the earth where grateful that there was food and water, and plenty of life so as a thanks, they took great care of the land. One day three shepherds were out tending to there flock when one stumbled and fell. The shepherd cried out "what?s this that I have fallen over." The shepherd picked up a bulky black shiny, triangle shaped object. "What is that?" said his friends. Before he could examine the object a bright light coming from the stone blinded the three shepherds. Being unable to open there eyes without going blind, all the shepherds could do was listen. A voice said "Please do not be alarmed, as I am not here to hurt you. I come with a gift. A gift from your mother earth. You are good people, and you look after your mother well, she feels that you deserve something in return. She told me to wait here until I was discovered. Whoever should find me each get one wish.? The shepherds could not believe what they where hearing. ?Are you speaking the truth?? asked one Man. ?Your mother is no liar, she speaks nothing but the truth.? There was silence. The three men Thought about what they wanted. The first man to answer was a good man named David. When Thinking about what he wanted he thought about his tribe leaders, how they where covered in jewels and were loved and worshiped by their people. He had never owned anything valuable before as he was not a rich man. So he said ?I want to be rich. I want lots of gold and jewels. If I am rich people will respect me as they do our tribe leaders? ?Granted.? Said the object without hesitating. The second shepherd, john was too a good man, but also had no possessions, so, like his friend he wished for the same thing. ?Granted.? Said the object. It was now the third mans turn to make a wish. His name was Michael. He thought long and hard about what he was going to wish for. He thought about how beautiful the earth was and how grateful he was that she had given him a chance to get whatever he wanted. ?I know what I want.? He said. ?So tell me shepherd and it shall be granted.? The shepherd replied ?I want to walk the earth for ever. I don?t want to get any older and I don?t want to die. I will tend to my mothers needs and watch over her to make sure she is safe and comes to no harm.? ?It shall be done.? Then there was silence again. Slowly the shepherds opened there eyes. Surrounded by piles of gold, the two who wished for riches, David and john leapt to there feet and started to rejoice. ?We are rich!? they shouted. ?We no longer have to work for our food.? Michael could not believe what he was hearing, john and David had been given riches by there creator and in return they will give up caring for her. Michael explained that his friends should carry on cherishing the ground that they walk on as it has given them not just gold and jewels, but life itself. John and Michael protested, ?Our mother has given us these riches so that I no longer have to work, I can feed myself and my family without venturing out into the fields with my flock. Your wish is silly as you will outlive your family and friends. If you ever marry or have children you will outlive them and they will die, you will be sad and unable to end your suffering.? John and David?s words where harsh but held some truth as Michael would never die and live forever. John and David took there gold and set off back home leaving Michael on his own to look after the sheep. The longer Michael was on his own the more he thought about the wish he had made. Had he made a mistake and damned himself to a lifetime of loneliness. A tear rolled down Michaels face, and before he had chance to wipe it away their was a strange sound, a sound that to Michael sounded scary. Almost like lightning, but with a deafening scream behind it. Then a green light and strong winds appered from nowhere. The light, so bright, that, like before Michael couldn?t open his eyes, and winds so strong that Michael nearly lost his balance. The light and sound slowly faded and Michael opened his eyes. He saw a silhouette of what looked like a man walking towards Michael. ?Don?t feel bad Michael.? said the figure. ?You are not alone, and you never will be, over the years you will become fast and strong, a great warrior. Your name will be known throughout the ages in the entire universe, and more importantly, you will become the soul protector, the watcher of the earth.? ?Who are you?? asked Michael. The figure stepped forward. ?I recognise you, you?re?? Michael suddenly lost his breath and couldn?t speak. Before I explain to you why Michael lost his breath I must explain the full extent of Michael?s immortality. He couldn?t die, he would live forever. During his lifetime Michael would see many great things. he would fight in many battles, travel to many places, explore space and even travel in time. For thousands of years man had wanted to travel through the years, sit and eat with kings in ancient lands, gather ancient artefacts to become rich or even visit a loved one from the past. To most this was just a fantasy, it was impossible, or at least that is what most thought. For Michael time travel became a reality long after man thought it was possible. How he came across it is a different story, but how he used it on one particular occasion was for a personal reason. Michael had lived many lives, met many people and like any other being felt many emotions over the years. He felt sorrow as he could not fall in love, anger that he could never have children without outliving them, as no parent wants to bury their offspring. Though Michael had had many emotions, anger and sorrow he never stopped being grateful. His curse was a gift from his mother and he was thankful. Michael remembered that when he first received the gift of eternal life, he felt lost and alone in the world. He had no one, and would outlive all his friends. his brothers and sisters, and even their offspring. Michael had lost all hope and throughout his life he still remembers back to that time and feels sorrow. He often thought about how he could change the sorrow he felt thousands of years ago as it still made him sad. like billions of beings had ones imagined, time travel could solve his predicament. If he went back in time to the beginning, to day he was given the gift of life, he could offer hope to himself, and that is just what he did. Mirrors had not been created, but Michael recognised his own face. He had seen it many times, at watering holes and wells where he went to drink. His hair and beard was different, there where markings and patterns painted onto his skin. His clothes looked like something from a different world, but it was defiantly him. ?Your me! How can this be?? shoute
