TWO LITTLE GIRLS IN BLUE by MARY HIGGINS CLARK In her latest book entitled ?Two little girls in Blue?, Mary Higgins Clark tells us the story of the kidnapping of sweet twin girls and the tension and drama that follows. This book published by Pocket Books in 2007 originate around the popular belief that there exists telepathy between some people, particularly between twins. She dedicates this book to FBI. Margaret and Steve Frawley who had recently moved to Ridgefield are out on a black tie dinner in New York and find that their twin girls, Kelly and Kathy, were kidnapped for ransom by somebody who calls himself ?Pied Piper?. Detailed instructions are delivered regarding payment of ransom and cautions them about mis-adventures. The ransom is a princely amount of eight million dollars. High drama follows. Steve Frawley who is employed with C.F.G.&Y for only a short while and is unable to pay this amount. But his employers step in and pays the ransom. While the identity of the Pied Piper is not revealed to the readers till the end, his comrade-in-arms are two jail birds, Harry, Bert and Harry?s girl friend, Angie. Harry?s girlfriend, a temperamental girl, is assigned the duty of looking after the twin girls. In the meanwhile the case is referred to FBI for investigation and bringing the guilty to justice. Days roll by without any leads uncovered. The Ransom amount is paid - seven million dollars to an overseas account of Pied Piper and the balance one million dollar in cash, presumably as the share of the others. Here the drama picks up pace. When the authorities arrive at the place of release of the girls, police only find one girl ? Kelly ? alongwith Bert, one of the kidnappers. There is also a suicide note from Bert saying that the other girl, Kathy, is dead, killed by him and the body dumped in sea. Angie, who is fond of children, flees the scene with Kathy and one million dollars in cash leaving Harry high and dry. Although everybody believes that Kathy is no more, her mother refuses to believe this. Meanwhile Kelly starts receiving telepathic messages from Kathy. Mary Higgins Clark also introduces Richard Mason, half brother of Steve Frawley who is a felon, FBI agent, Carlson, Norman Bond and Gregg Standford, who are directors on the Board of Company where Steve is employed, besides a host of individuals who are in one way or the other connected with the story. At the kidnapping front things are happening. Angie has her hands full of the sick Kathy gets panicky and summons Clint. But things do not work well for her. In a fit of anger, Clint who has always resented the way he is treated by Angie hits her dead and pushes the van in which she & Kathy are in to the sea. High drama follows and Kathy is rescued and Clint arrested. Kathy who is very sick was taken to a Hospital. The curtain is about to fall but for some loose ends. Richard Mason was arrested for his involvement in the drug trade. Gregg Stanford is identified as Pied Piper and arrested. Norman Bond who is the other Director is run over by a truck. Mary Higgins Clark in her lucid style of story telling takes us through the whole story without any hitch or break and has re-established that she is indeed a great story teller and is successful in weaving the story around the telepathy between twins. Although you may be skeptical about her theory, you cannot argue that it is the bond between the children that led us through the kidnapping, rescue of Kelly first and subsequent finding of Kathy. The story narration and character caricatures are very good and you will never feel like putting down the book without completing it. The thorough investigation by FBI shows her faith in them. No wonder she dedicates the book to them. So what are you waiting for ? please go get the book and enjoy yourselves.
