Hope
(Lesley Pearse)

Publicidade
Without a doubt my favourite author for the last five years. I am always excited to see a new Lesley Pearse book on the shelf, and this latest one has been no disappointment.

From the first gripping chapter where we learn about the uncertain fate of our heroine Hope (never has the name of a character been so apt), through the astounding trials and tribulations of the next 20 years, I was totally gripped (it is quite difficult to turn the pages with your fingers crossed, but you can''t help but pray for a little bit of luck to come her way.

I do not want to give to much away, but from a small hamlet in Somerset, to a cholera rid Bristol in the 19th century, to the horrors of the Crimean War, this novel really takes you all over, both geographically and emotionally. By the end you have invested so much in the main characters, as in all Pearce''s stories you are loath to let go.

As well as a personal story, the novel also asks questions and criticises the blatant unfairness of the class system in Britain, which even today we are not totally free of.

I would recommend this novel to anyone who has even an iota of emotion, and defy anyone not to be moved by this truly uplifting story.
