The Devil's Church
(Marlua)

Publicidade
In this short story The Devil?s Church, Machado de Assis narrates the story cited in an old Benedictine writing according to which the Devil decided to establish a church, where only the sinners would have a seat and the practice of the ?Seven Deadly Sins? was highly liberated. Thanks to the easiness of this church, the devil could with no trouble preach a subversive doctrine, capable of converting thousands of believers or unbelievers, but an incident happens when everything became allowed ? except the practice of kindness - men turn again to divine virtue, and the DEVIL was not really expecting this. It is a very funny and interesting short story, in the style of Machado de Assis, written to attract the reader?s attention and to give free rein to fancy. It is worth reading..
