The Antártida, a trip to another world

During forty and three days an expedition documented by air, sea and earth the life in the white continent. Explorer Alfredo Barragán, fifty and eight years, assures to have returned from another called planet Antártida. "The name of the expedition, Finis Terra, was an error. The aim of the world is Ushuaia. The Antártida is not comparable to anything of the known world", says Barragán, that it crossed, along with other six explorers of the Center of Sport Activities, Exploration and Investigation (Cadei), the more austral ice continent of the planet. "There there is no violence, neither money nor contamination. And it is the only place of Argentina where the different governments have maintained, during one hundred three years, a true policy of State. By all it is that I consider that the Antártida, evidently, is not in this world", thought Barragán. Project of Cadei was approved and including within Program Antarctic Argentine for season 2006-2007 by Direction National of Antarctic (DNA), that is the dependency that governs the Argentine task in that continent, and counted, for its execution, with the logistical support of the Armed Forces. "The intention of Finis Terra was to make a documentary work in the Antártida soon to spread the material and thus to concientizar and to sensitize to the world-wide population on that situation and its importance for the global ecosystem", explained Barragán, that in 1984 made the important Atlantis expedition, that allowed him to cross the Atlantic Ocean in a raft of trunks, and added: "Our great goal was to reach the base Belgrano II, located in the parallel 78° , to only 12° of the pole, and at where ALTAR can solely be arrived on board from the icebreakers Admiral Irizar once a year". During the forty and three days following they sailed six thousand two hundred miles, visited twelve Argentine Antarctic bases and foreign, they were two weeks within the Antarctic Circle, dived between icebergs, they explored cracks and they scaled floating icebergs. All it was documented and registered in fifteen thousand digital photographies and twenty-five hours of hi-res shooting. "The idea is to do an audio-visual one with the photographies, that are of utility to the National Direction of the Antarctic and to the Armed Forces, that are the protagonists of the Antarctic task, and to make televising programs with the shooting so that they contribute to the diffusion of the Antarctica reality", Barragán explained. Barragán emphasized, among others, to have dived during one hour and quarter in waters with temperatures of 1,3° below cero and to have unfurled an Argentine banner in a floating iceberg that had been come off the Argentine territory, in the Sea of Weddel.
