Mankind's Search For God
(A JEHOVAH'S WITNESES' PUBLICATION)

SHOULD MANKINDSEARCH FOR GOD INTHE FOOT-STEPS OF MERE MORALIST AND REFORMERS?

Mankind has always been looking for a supernatural force greater than his ever since history is known. There has beenno known society in mankind's history that claimed no reverence to some form of worship or religiousrituals. It therefore seems like MANKIND cannot stand independent of some force greater than his own. This suppots the bible's point that MAN is the image of God.Man has the image and qualities of God and so he is not like the animals. He is conscious of the existence of God.But the animals do not. Eternity is a nature of God and only man thinks and wishes eternity, showing that Man is inherent of the nature of God.
In today's world where several kinds of religionshave already been established,it seems easy for one to just perform the activities of religion. But how about the prehistoric and most primitive societies that existed when there was absolutely no religious organization? How did they come to start their own forms of worship? What prompted them to even think of worshiping when they knew nothing about it?Well,it is claimed that the wonders of nature like the sun ,moon, and seasonal changes caused them to just believe in the existence of a supernatural force that controlled everything, and so they started performing worship rituals so as to find favour in the eyes of the spiritual forces. Thus in this way ancient forms of worship gave birth.
In later years, mankind's quest for Godhas given rise to a vast multitude of religions.
This rages from Judaism,Jainism,Hinduism,Islamism,Shintoism,Budhism, Taoism,to Christianity. In all of these religions there is always the founder,or the one who sparked the creation of the religion.Like Confucious, the founderof Confucianism, this persons were either moralist or reformers whose doctrines were later established into a religion by their followers. So they were not the ones who started their own religion.Even christ, the son of God,did not really originate religion. He came with his teachings and changed and modifiedthe old and vicious doctrines of the old testament. And after he left, his disciples progressively shaped his doctrines into the religion of Christianity. This is similar with the case of other religions like Budhism,Hinduism,Taoism, etc.
But in the approach of these persons or cultures to seek God, too many different rites, rituals and ways of worshipping are used, and some even contradict some. For example,in the Budhist religion it is being taught that salvation comes by gaining enlightment and following the way of Karma,so that in ones next life one will have a more better life, whereas christianityteaches thatsalvation comes by accepting christ, the son of God,and his teachings.Note that most of the founders of these religions were just persons who abhored the decadency of their societies at thattime ,and so sought for ways to curb it.They had no direction from God in whateversoever they did. So,the question now is:should mankind follow the foot-steps of moralists and reformers in the search for God?
