Eleven On Top
(Janet Evanovich)
Quirky and demi-ditzy bounty hunter Stephanie plum is featured in her eleventh book, and this time she wants out. She drops everything and quits, even handing over her fake badge bought on ebay to her cousin Vinnie, who owns the bail bonds office. The trouble is that even though she wants to quit, the bounty hunting life just won't leave her alone. Lula, the file clerk at Vinnie's, has taken Stephanie's place, but she needs help and is constantly inviting her --Stephanie-- along for the ride when she can't bring an FTA (Failure to Appear) in to jail. To top it off Stephanie has a stalker on her tale, and no matter how hard she tries her new car keeps getting shot, kicked, dented, and attacked before it finally explodes with an innocent (yet really mean) woman inside. Someone is out to kill her and if she wants to stay alive then she's going to have to get back in the game by working for Ranger, her ex-boyfriend and pro bounty hunter(to the annoyance of her currant boyfriend and hot, super cop, Joe Morelli) and using his high tech equipment to find out who wants her dead. To top it off Stephanie's overweight sister is dieting like crazy to be the perfect bride for her upcoming marriage, a marriage Stephanie will be required to wear an awful purple dress to attend, and play the cello, because as it turns out she said she could play the cello when really she doesn't know what one looks like, but as unlucky as that is, luck came back to destroy the cello for her, and Morelli's shed, along with it when the killing stalker struck and missed again. This book is like all my favorites in a series (as most people know who've read my book reviews) because it doeswn't require that you go back and read the last ten books just to know what's going on in the eleventh. After finishing Eleven On Top I went out and bought the previous novel Ten Big Ones, and I don't think I'll mind working my way back.
