The Doc has passed. His life has been embedded on thousands of pages across the land. Though he does not exist on earth, his soul is an open book (no pun intended) for his everlasting fans to follow. Hunter S. Thompson has without a doubt has made an astounding cult following of the young and old across the globe.
In Kingdom of Fear, it almost becomes an obligation, let alone an honor, to hear what the man of all men has to say on say and the stories he has to tell. To divulge into Hunter's twisted world in his postlife is as intense of an experience, if not more, than when he was living. What is it that makes his life and work so interesting. A simple quote from Kingdom could give the answer quite easily:
"My life has been the polar opposite of safe, but I am proud of it and so is my son, and that is good enough for me."
Kingdom of Fear could very well be Hunter's most informative, and possibly most explicit, collection of work that this genious of a journalist has ever put together. Everything from his time as a "Night Manager" for a famed San Francisco Gentleman's Club, to his multiple run in's with the law, neighbors, and envious objectors. Never before has a reader ever had the ability to see with such clarity how Hunter's mind tended to work. The doc has prescribed the anticdote, it's up to the reader to take the dosage. And in the case of Kingdom of Fear, it could be bit much to swallow. But a true Hunter S. Thompson fan has already taken this into account, and is one of the many reasons we treasure all his works and his legend.
