The reader of this book will become a witness of a tragedy.The tragedy which happened to the Hungarian population of Bacska, Bánát and Baranya in the autumn and winter of 1944, when a new power has arisen in Vajdasag.Wars always resulted in both military and civilian casualties. They die in battles, street fights or during the bombing of settlements. However, in the Vajdaság after the fighting has ceased, there have fallen further victims.Little is known about the fate of people disappeared in the end of 1944. Publicly, they have been never mentioned. No official documents have been made about them. No court judgements were posted to the relatives of the deceased. The victims not only disappeared from the population - the place where they rest has not been made known.There are only guesses about the places where they have been buried. Why all this has happened ? What were their offences ? It is not known. Conventional people: young men, peasants, students, intellectuals, priests. Their names were not listed among the war criminals. The atrocities were made on higher orders issued by the omnipotent Jugoslavian Communist Party being the lord of life and death at that time and for further 45 years. By all signs, theJPC issued the order which forbade to mention this until 1990. People did not dare to mention the atrocities as they feared the revenge. These days have not been mentioned for 45 years. The people who were driven into camps from their homes,sent for forced labour, about those who escapedfrom the terror, those who has been deported,most of them being Hungarians, must not have been mentioned.However, Hungarian population ofZsablya, Csurog, Mosorin are missing collectively since they have been executed without selection. The executions were carried out by the legal authorities, not by terrorists. There are no objective facts in this book, rather than thepersonal memories of the subjects of a holocaust from the distance of a half century. The memories of the people witnessing the events shed light to a fact which has been in twilight for a half century:in the end of1944, Hungarian population of Jugoslavia suffered a bloody revenge.
