10 Dietary Guidelines For Pregnant Women
(SUNWITHSAM)

Publicidade
1. Resist cravings: Being picky about food or eating based on cravings for long periods can cause poor nutrition and impact the growth of the fetus. For this reason, pregnant women should eat a diet rich in protein and fiber and containing plenty of nutrients like calcium and iron, and should eat foods that are easily digested. These include chicken eggs, lean meat, legume products, fresh fish, peanuts, fresh vegetables and fruit. 2. Resist cola: Pregnant women who drink too much cola can harm their fetuses. This is because cola beverages are usually made using the kola nut (cola acuminata) and cola contains 2.6% caffeine as well as bioactive alkaloids such as clonidine. These can pass through the placenta into the body of the fetus and harm the normal development of the brain, heart, liver and gastro-intestinal organs. 3. Resist the urge to eat overly rich food: Pregnant women who eat too much meat, fish, eggs or sweets can raise their catecholamine levels, which can cause cleft lip and cleft palate in the fetus; if pregnant women eat too much organ meat, a significant rise in vitamin A levels in the body can result, which can impact the development of the brain and heart of the fetus, as well as causing defects of the genital tract. Consequently, pregnant women should not overindulge of these foods. 4. Resist drinking coffee: The caffeine in coffee acts on the fetus, binding to and changing the DNA in its cells. Pregnant women who drink coffee often also face higher risks of miscarriage and birth defects. 5. Resist smoking: Tobacco smoke contains hundreds of harmful substances and if a pregnant woman smokes or is exposed to second-hand smoke, she can seriously impact the development of her fetus. Statistics show that worldwide some 8000-plus fetuses die each year due to maternal smoking or exposure to or second-hand smoke. This is because the carbon monoxide and nicotine in smoke can pass through the placenta and affect the fetus, causing anoxia to the fetal organs and speeding up heartbeat, possibly even killing the fetus. 6. Resist eating fruits and vegetables contaminated with pesticides: When pregnant women eat fruits and vegetables contaminated with pesticides, the normal genetic control processes are changed or fetal growth is slowed. This leads to congenital deformities; in severe cases, fetal development could be halted and the fetus could die. Miscarriage or premature birth could result. 7. Resist drinking strong tea: Frequent drinking of strong tea by pregnant women can seriously impact the skeletal development of the fetus, and even lead to birth defects. 8. Resist overly salty foods: If pregnant women ingest foods that are too salty, sodium can build up in the body This can cause fluid buildup and impact the normal development of the fetus. 9. Resist drinking alcohol: Alcohol use by pregnant women can lead to slowed development of the fetal organs and increase the chances of premature birth and perinatal death rates. 10. Resist eating too many canned foods: The chemical additives in canned foods do not affect healthy people much, but the impact on pregnant women can be great at times. These products impact the cellular division in the fetus and inhibit development.
