With the first degree murder charge on Katie, Leda begged Ellie to defend Katie. Based on the terms and condition of the bail, Ellie had to be with Katie practically 24-hour a day. Ellie stayed at the Fisher?s dairy farm and learned the Amish way of life. Katie and Ellie learned a lot about each other, their routine and way of thinking. At the same time, in her course of defending Katie, Ellie seek the assistance from an old friend, Coop. Memories and feelings intermingled.In the end, Ellie managed to save Katie from the maximum punishment. But what actually happened to the baby? It was reveled in less than 100 words towards the end of the story.I like this book because I was curious with the Amish way of life. I enjoyed reading their daily routine at the dairy farm. Besides the main characters mention above, other characters keep the story alive ? Samuel - Katie?s fiancé, Adam ? the father of the child, and Jacob ? Katie?s brother who went to college.
