The Devil Wears Prada
(Lauren Weisberger)
The Devil Wears PradaLauren WeisbergerThat's a funny narrative about a girl who just left the College to begin her life for herself. All the clichés about teenagers as parent's excessive care for their lives are told in a very humorous stile. The first chapter finishes with this humorous speech: "...and told myself to be rational. You don't want her to die, I thought, stretching out in the backseat. Because if she does, you lose all hope of killing her yourself. And that would be a shame."I confess I had the same speech for myself many times in my life about my bosses. The first thing we see, yes, the reader can experiment the New York traffic with her, is her way back to the office driving her boss new car. It is chaotic, with cigarette's ash falling in her expensive clothes (Manolo's shoes and Gucci gowns).Miranda Priestly, the chief editor of the famous fashion magazine is more a very fun character than you may imagine. She makes Andrea's life a hell, that's right. But she gives her a large amount of adventure, enduring work and new information about the life in the New York social life. Miranda's family compounds of twin sisters and husband and one pet. The kids are exceptionally intelligent. There is Andrea's best friend Lily who drunks a lot and dates handsome guys without even asking their names. There is her boyfriend Alex, who is a dedicated teacher and they are going to have hard times after Andrea gets her job at the Runaway magazine. What I found very deceptive is the final chapter. One statement by Miranda showed that she was really concerned about Andrea's future:"And I was going to say that I'll much more willing to help you get where you'll would like to go now that you've demonstrated that you're committed. You should be proud of yourself, Ahn-dre-ah!"Well, Wiesberger is an excellent writer. She has a sense of making the reader enjoy every utterance of the book. And she really does.
