Subah-e-benaras
(Ravindra Nath Srivastava)

Excerpts from unpublished book"Exploring Varanasi" by Ravindra Nath Srivastava
SUBAH-E-BENARAS
Wake up early morning, long before dawn, as
temple bells begin to peal across the town.Hundreds of
devotees walk towards the riverbank. Most of the
people hold garlands of marigold, rose petals
and earthen oil lamps for offering, preparing to
perform in the religious rituals. As the moments passes, the sky begins to lighten, the
chiming of the bell rises to a crescendo, and down the
narrow lanes of Varanasi come the countless faithful.
Making a ritual dip in the river as a part of everyday
life to purify themselves, the people also offer
prayers and others activities to renounce the material
pleasures of the world. Bathing in Ganges, worshiping in temples and
participating & enjoying festivities throughout the
year is enough to recharge you.srivastava_r@@yahoo.com
